We were looking for something to write about LJW, but the back of his album promo from 1965 Records kind of says it best:
"In the late sixties and seventies, Larry Jon Wilson, along with his friends and stablemates Kris Kristofferson, Tony Joe White, Eddie Hinton, Donnie Fritts, Mickey Newberry and Townes Van Zant, began the job of dismantling Nashville brick by brick. They bought a new soul to town, a fresh earthiness that approached country and took a left turn, beginning and ending as something Other. During the 1970's Larry Jon Wilson recorded four albums, each one a masterpiece of funky southern story telling. R and B, country, folk and the blues, it's all there, delivered in a baritone growl. He spent the decade chasing his own singular vision, on highways, in poolrooms, on stage and more often than not, in late night song sessions with friends. He never chased the money, never took the easy ride. And now, after a 28 year break, he's back. Hope, desire, age. An attempt, no matter how ragged, to be honest. And that's what it's always been about. And still is. This is pure, elemental magic."
Couldn't have said it better ourselves. Absolute quality of the highest pedigree..
